A Time To Come
I can't help but wonder if Christ's disciples fully understood the significance of Matthew's reference to Isaiah concerning the mission of Christ and its relevance to His followers (see Matthew 12:18-41 and Isaiah 42:1-4). In speaking of Christ's mission, God's words reverberate through time to those clinging to the cross of Christ today. We too are to be lights for those who sit in darkness, to open their eyes and release them from self-imposed prisons (Isaiah 42:6,7). Acceptance of such responsibility comes as our relationship with God deepens. Desire awakens to share God's promise: "I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them" Isaiah 42:16.
